# Agreement Coding

In other words, the actual percentage of concordance is not the most important aspect of the tool. However, this percentage is provided by MAXQDA. To calculate „P-Chance“ or coincidence, MAXQDA uses a proposal by Brennan and Preacher (1981) who has studied at length the optimal use of Cohen`s Kappa and its problems of uneven distribution of edges. In this calculation, random concordance is determined by the number of different categories used by the two programmers. This corresponds to the number of codes in the specific result table. The „Percentage“ column indicates the rate of overestimation relative to the corresponding code. The line is used to calculate the average percentage of correspondence – in the example it is 93.33%.
